
Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Secretary K Shanmugam and State police head J K Tripathy took charge of their respective posts yesterday.
Shanmugham who succeeded Girija Vaidyanathan was a native of Salem and was the Finance Secretary for the past nine years. He has been credited for his acumen in budget preparation.
Tripathy a native of Odisha was named to the top post after Director General of Police T K Rajendran retired. He is a 1985 batch IPS officer. He previously headed Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board as its Chairman. In the last 30 years, he has held various responsibilities, including that of the DGP Prisons and Commissioner of Police in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli.

Both Vaidyanathan and Rajendran separately met Chief Minister K Palaniswami at his office. A farewell function was held by the IAS Officers’ Association at the Secretariat for Vaidyanathan recently. Over the three-decade-long career, she had headed several departments, including health and industries.
A similar function was held for Rajendran yesterday. He was a 1984 batch IPS officer and had served as Additional DGP (Law and Order) and IGP-Special Task Force.
