Chennai: Residents of Fourth Avenue are facing a problem without proper bus shelter in the area. The buses from K K Nagar depot go to various places like Thiruvotriyur, Parry’s Corner, High Court and other places in the city.
The area has various schools, banks and commercial establishments. But all these people who depend on public transport are left to the mercy of the elements. They are forced to stand in the hot sun in summer and during the rainy season, face many difficulties while waiting for the bus.
Senior citizens are the ones who are badly affected due to the lack of a bus shelter.
“I have been living in the locality for the past 40 years. A few years ago, there was a small thatched roof for shelter, but even that is gone now. We have to wait for the buses out in the open,” said a senior citizen who was on way to Parry’s Corner. Students in the locality, going to various schools and colleges, are also affected by the issue.
Senior citizens going to banks or shops seek a bus shelter in the area. They pointed out that young people stand near the shops for shelter and run towards the bus once it arrives: but senior citizens can’t do that, they say.
