Chennai: A team of police personnel from Telangana arrived here this morning to conduct an inquiry with Vanitha Vijayakumar, a contestant in the Bigg Boss 3 reality television show following a kidnap allegation by her former husband.
Vanitha is the eldest daughter of veteran actor Vijayakumar and late actress Manjula. The police inquiry is based on a complaint by her estranged husband Anandraj alleging that after the couple separated, Vanitha has been keeping their child away from him.
Vanitha married Anandraj in 2007 and were later divorced in 2012 with the custody of her daughter going to her ex-husband. Vanitha has visitation rights. He alleged that Vanitha had brought his daughter to Chennai and is keeping her in hiding.
The tiff between them began after Anandraj shifted to Hyderabad. He had filed a similar complaint in 2017.
Following this, Anandraj filed a habeas corpus petition to locate the child and a kidnapping case was registered against Vanitha.
“This morning, after meeting higher officials, an inspector of police from Telangana had come to meet inspector of police Nasarathpet, Illango. Two members of the complaint party had also come. They went to the EVP Film City where the show takes place and quizzed her for two hours,” a police source said.
