Southern Railway collects Rs 4.16 lakh during checking drive


Chennai: Southern Railway conducted three special drives in June and collected Rs 4,16,905 from 1,341 passengers, who were found travelling without tickets.

According to a press release, 762 persons who travelled without tickets were penalised and Rs 2,52,915 was collected as fine during a drive conducted by 134 ticket checking staff and 80 RPF personnels covering 150 suburban trains between Chennai Beach and Tambaram. The drive was done under the direction of Chennai Divisional Railway Manager P Mahesh. Those fined included second class ticket holders travelling in first class as well as transgenders traveling without tickets, the release said.

In another drive conducted with 30 ticket checking staff and 14 RPF staff covering 94 suburban trains between Villivakkam and Tiruvallur, 207 persons were fined and Rs 61,460 was collected as penalty.

The drive was conducted under the direction of Additional Divisional Railway Manager K Manoj. Also, third special ticket checking drive was conducted with 53 ticket checking staff and 33 RPF staff covering 80 suburban trains between Chennai and Gummidipoondi. As many as 372 persons were found traveling without tickets and Rs 1,02,530 was collected as fine from them.
