Answering a question raised during the discussion on demands for grants in the Assembly, he said, “Based on the verdict of the Supreme Court, we have passed a resolution to release the convicts and it has been sent to Governor Banwarilal Purohit. It is upto the Governor to take a call now. We have done what the DMK failed to do.”

Earlier in the day, Palaniswami announced a slew of welfare measures under the Rule 110. He said that ‘Amma Ilaingar Vilayattu Thittam’ will be implemented in 12,524 village panchayats and 528 town panchayats at a cost of 64.35 crore.

He further said ‘Amma Ilaingar Vilayattu Kuzhu’ will be formed by the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department to train young boys and girls.

“Steps will be taken to setup grounds to play any three sports such as kabadi, volleyball, cricket and football. Appropriate awards and honours will be given to sports persons from the State who win in senior and junior levels at international tournaments,” he said.

He added the old building of the Sports Development Authority located near Chennai Nehru Park will be razed and a new building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore. “12 apartments will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore at the Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University premises,” he said.

He added that a five storeyed new building for Information Communication department will be constructed at a cost of Rs 27.79 crore. Making announcements for the Fisheries department, he said fishing harbours will be set up at Azhagankuppam in Villupuram district and Aalamparaikuppam in Kanchipuram districts at a cost of Rs 235 crore.

“A fishing harbour at cost of Rs 150 crore will be constructed at Arcotuthurai,” he added. He further said that Central Animal Disease Diagnostic and Surveillance will be set up at Padappai at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
