Chennai: The DMK today staged a walkout after raising the NEET issue in the Assembly. Bringing a calling attention motion on the issue during Zero Hour, Leader of the Opposition in the House, M K Stalin, said the two resolutions against NEET, passed in the Tamilnadu Assembly two years ago, were sent back by the President 19 months ago.
“However, Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam has not said anything about this. He should resign from his post for hiding such a crucial information,” he said.
Responding to this, Shanmugam said, “We have been informed that the resolutions are placed on hold. I will resign if it is proved that the resolutions have been sent back.”
Not satisfied with the Minister’s response, the DMK staged a walkout.
Addressing mediapersons outside the Assembly, Stalin said Shanmugam has hidden the obvious truth.
It may be noted that on 8 July DMK brought an calling attention motion in the Assembly asking the State government to pass a resolution against the Central government for not granting NEET exemption to Tamilnadu.
The DMK president said the two resolutions seeking exemption from NEET, passed unanimously in the Assembly two years ago, has been ignored by the Central government.
“To show our dissent, a resolution should be passed against the Central Government. The Central government ignoring a resolution passed in the State Assembly is a challenge to autonomous rule in the State,” he said.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said it is not possible to pass an resolution condemning the Centre.
“However, a review petition will be filed in the High Court or Supreme Court after legal consultation,” he had said.
Stalin said if was not possible, then the State government should at least pass a resolution insisting the Central government take up the resolutions.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said a decision on the issue will be taken after legal consultation.
