Chennai: Considering the rush of devotees to have a darshan of Athi Varadar, who was taken out of the holy tank after 40 years at Sri Devarajaswamy Temple, Kanchipuram collector Ponniah has said the timing for darshan has been extended by two hours.

It will be from 4.30 am to 10 pm, he announced today, and added that the new timings would come into operation from today.

On the 10th day of Athi Varadar emerging out of holy tank at Sri Devarajaswamy Temple in Kanchipuram today, the idol was decorated with special alankaram. Devotees gathered in large numbers to have His darshan.

Yesterday, there was heavy rush and people had to queue up for even six hours to have a darshan of the Lord in sayana kolam. According to sources, about 1.20 lakh people had darshan on the 9th day yesterday.

Considering the heavy rush of devotees and pilgrims, the darshan timings have been extended on their request, said Ponniah.
