Hyderabad: Three days after he was reportedly kidnapped by Maoists in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana, N Srinivas Rao, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader, was found dead yesterday between Errapadu and Puttapadu, Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.
According to media report, the 45-year-old was abducted from his house in Kothur village, Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, on Monday around midnight and his body was found with a head injury yesterday. Durga, Rao’s wife, alleged that around 10-15 unidentified men carrying weapons and sticks dragged her husband out of their house. She and her son pleaded with them but they were beat up, claimed Durga while speaking to news channel.
Media reports said the Maoists had left behind a letter saying Rao was killed as he was a police informer. Officials are yet to ascertain whether he died of a bullet or head injury.
It is to be noted that earlier this year, Maoists had abducted a villager, but he was returned safely, the police official added. Bhdradri-Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt has apparently said the TRS leader was not a police informer. he was a farmer who earned good name by helping others.
He further claimed the Maoists were targeting those who stood by farmers and extorted money from farmers and businessmen in Charla area for their survival. They have also threatened many contractors and farmers for money and resorted to such violent acts if someone refused to pay, the SP has reportedly said in a police release.
