Chennai: President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred honorary doctorate (LLD) of the Tamilnadu Dr Ambedkar Law University on Kerala Governor, Justice (retired) P Sathasivam, during the convocation at the varsity premises at Taramani here today.
Kovind also congratulated the graduates during the convocation.
Speaking at the event, Kovind said he was happy to take part in the convocation. He also praised Sathasivam and said he worked efficiently as the Chief Justice of India.
Sathasivam is an alumnus of the Government Law College in Chennai, which later became the Tamilnadu Dr Ambedkar Law University.
Along with Sathasivam, Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, and Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani, also received their honorary degrees.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said the State upholds justice and honesty without any compromise.
“The law department and media are functioning independently in the State,” he said.
He further said three new colleges will be started in the State this year.
“Adequate funds are being allocated for the improvement of law colleges in Tamilnadu. The judges have been delivering verdict like Manu Needhi Chozhan,” he added.
