Chennai: In the annual alumnae reunion meet of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women (JBAS) which held yesterday in the college premises, more than 1000 alumnae participated in the event and connected with the Alma Mater and their friends. And the notable alumnus were given special awards for their exemplary works in their respective field.
In his presidential address chairman of the SIE Trust Moosa Raza, highlighted that the alumnae play an important role in the growth of the institution and their contribution to the society as mothers, wives and sisters is commendable. He reiterated that the alumnae reunion is all about the catching up with the friends and the faculty and a walk down the memory lane.
The programme witnessed the felicitation of seven distinguished alumnae. The Lifetime Professional Achievement Award was conferred on former district judge Ahalya, who belonged to the department of Zoology, 1964 batch.
Assistant Professor, University of Miyazaki, Japan, Radha Madhyastha, was presented with the Distinguished Alumnae Achiever Award. She graduated from department of zoology, 1992 batch.
Ex Flight Lieutenant Rency M Thomas, who belonged to the department of commerce, 1991 batch, was felicitated with the Alumnae Achiever Award.
A notable theatre personality from Madras Players, Nikhila Kesavan who completed her degree in English in 2002 was presented with the Young Alumnae Achiever Award. Film and Television actress Riythvika, title winner of the famous reality show, Big Boss Season -2 (Tamil) was conferred with the Young Alumnae Achiever Award. She graduated from the institution from the department of physics in 2012.
Rashida Jamal Jinnah (1971 – Home Science) and Abeeda Khaja (1995 – Computer Science) were given a special Alumnae Contributory Award. An alumnae newsletter issue titled The JBAS Bulletin was released on the same day by the college chairman Moosa Raza with information about various alumnae achievers and their contributions.
