Chennai: A new park has been opened by State Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department at Ramachandran Street, Santhosh Nagar, in Mugalivakkam.

The park, built at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, is now one of the most happening places in Porur. Covering an area of 5,211 sq metre, the park has a number of amenities that serve different age groups.

AVAILABLE FACILITIES
The park has a wide walking space, and a pebble pathway is also available to help relax visitors’ feet. LED lights have been installed, and vehicle parking facility is also available here. Officials have said that a purified drinking water facility will be installed soon. A full-time garden-keeper and a watchman have been appointed. Other than these, toilet facility is also available here.

PRAISE FROM RESIDENTS
“This park is definitely a boon for the locals. In the evenings, we take our grand children to the park, and they spend quality time by giving their body some physical work instead of spending time at home with laptops and tabs,” says Venkatanarayanan, a senior citizen from Mugalivakkam.

“Many parks in Porur lack vehicle parking facility. But here, a spacious one is available. Also, the toilets here are maintained neatly,” praises Vijay, a resident.

WHAT THEY NEED
Although the park has all amenities, residents unanimously feel that the closing time could be extended by one more hour. “Children enjoy playing here and they come here only by 7 pm after finishing their homework. The park closes by 8 pm. So, one hour is not enough for them. It would be good if the closing time is extended. Also, since this is summer time, drinking water facility must be set up as soon as possible,” says another resident Ramakrishnan.
