Thiruvananthapuram: A woman activist belonging to Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) yesterday barged in to the Kerala Secretariat to protest against the attack on a student at the University College campus last week.

The woman identified as Shilpa reached the North Block at the Secretariat where the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office is present and was removed by women police personnel. Shilpa is reportedly the State leader of the Congress-backed outfit. Three other people had entered the state administrative hub, they were blocked by the police.

A media report said, a police man and 11 others were injured in a clash between protesters belonging toMuslim Students Federation and the security force personnel outside the University College.

After water cannon and bursting of tear gas shells failed to disperse the protesters, the police resorted to lathi-charge said the media report. The activists have been booked by the police.

The victim Akhil was a third year Political Science student. On 12 July, he was apparently attacked for singing a song that angered some Students Federation of India members. The victim was stabbed on the chest and he was rushed to the Trivandrum medical college hospital.
