Chennai: Pioneer Colony Association organised a special meeting on ‘Solid Waste Management and Rain Water Harvesting’ on 7 July.
M Munusamy, president of the association, welcomed the gathering and introduced the officials of Greater Corporation of Chennai and D Gnana Suriya Bahavan, director, Bhumi, Centre for Conservation of Natural Resources.
K B Vijaya Kumar, Zonal Officer, Zone-8 and M Satish Kumar, Executive Engineer, Zone-7, Greater Corporation of Chennai explained in detail about how the garbage can be segregated in separate bins and can be reused as manure. The officials also informed that every block should have rainwater harvesting and surface water can be reused.
Gnana Suriya Bahavan, in his speech explained the methodology on solid waste which can be reused and also how rain water can be stored.
K Prabodha Chandra, association secretary thanked everybody and assured them that appropriate action will be initiated by the colony in the near future and make the colony into a model colony.
