Thiruvananthapuram: Justice P S Gopinathan Commission, which was probing the fire tragedy at Puttingal Devi temple at Paravoor in Kollam district three years ago, submitted the report to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan yesterday.

The fire at the century-old temple was caused by fireworks and claimed over 100 lives. It is regarded as one of the worst temple tragedies in the State. On 10 April 2016, a cracker fell onto a storage of fireworks and caused an explosion. 111 people died and more than 300 were injured during due to the unauthorised display of fireworks. More than 100 houses were damaged in the fire and 2,000 houses were partially damaged. The explosion also caused several wells to cave in.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had visited the accident spot.
