Chennai: The Indian Coastal Guard rescued eight Tamilnadu fishermen after their country boat beached on a Sri Lankan island yesterday.
According to a media report, the CG contacted Indian High Commission at Sri Lanka for the men’s release and sought permission from Colombo to access the island.
The men had sent a distress call after their boat drifted and landed at the seventh island located around 1.5 nautical miles past the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) due to a technical snag.
A hovercraft and an amphibious vessel that can travel both on land and water was deployed. The rescued fishermen have been handed over to Tamilnadu officials.
