Kochi: Hailing Priyanka Gandhi for her brave action against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, senior Congress leader K V Thomas said she can give effective leadership to Congress.
The former Union Minister said that Priyanka Gandhi has Congress blood and that her leadership skill was proved in her fight for justice against the Yogi Adityanath.
Ten people in Sonbhadra were allegedly gunned down earlier this week. 18 more people were injured in the clash between supporters of the village head and Gond tribals over a land dispute on Wednesday. When Priyanka was on her way to visit the victims’ kin, she was stopped by the UP police. She and her supporters sat on the road at Narainpur and demanded that she be let to proceed and meet the families. She was later detained at Chunar guesthouse in Mirzapur district. Many Congress leaders, including, Rahul Gandi slammed the UP government, saying she was illegally arrested.
After Rahul Gandhi resigned as the party president, Congress is facing uncertainty. Recently, former MP Abhijit Mukherjee made an open plea in favour of Priyanka Gandhi. He said she should not ignore the calls of lakhs of Congress workers.
Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Anil Shastri had said Priyanka Gandhi is the best person to lead the party.
