Chennai: Several junctions in Porur like Ramapuram, DLF and Butt Road are always choked up with vehicles, and motorists commuting through these places experience painstaking travel every day. To put an end to this, commuters are requesting for a flyover near DLF to avoid traffic snarls.

“Since, the place has become a hub for commercial establishments, the number of people commuting through Porur is increasing day by day. It’s high time to construct a flyover at DLF to ease the ruthless traffic,” says a motorist.

“Both mornings and evenings, the place gets packed with vehicles. The traffic at the main Porur junction is comparatively less because of the flyover. So, it would be helpful if the authorities plan on constructing a flyover here too,” suggests an auto driver.

In addition to this, people also feel that the junction at But Road should be expanded for the free movement of vehicles. “All vehicles coming from Mount-Poonamallee road have to cross this very narrow junction. Here, vehicles remain lined up for several kilometres every day. There are a number of traffic policemen regulating the vehicle flow, but nothing helps in easing the congestion,” says Balamurugan, a commuter. He too stresses that a flyover near DLF and Butt Road would be helpful to commuters.

He says, “We see authorities working toward developing the metro rail facility in this area. But they should concentrate on the condition of our roads too.”

Many office-goers complain that the traffic gets intense whenever a shift ends. “My shift gets over at 8.30 pm, and I have to wait till 9.30 pm for the traffic to ease. But even then it is of no use. Every day, I will spend bulk time for crossing this traffic,” says an office-goer, who works in an IT company here.
