Hyderabad: The Telangana consumer forum yesterday handed over a cheque of Rs 8 lakh to a man who’s piles surgery was allegedly botched up at a private hospital in Secunderabad.

According to a media report, the victim was a 31-year-old yoga instructor and he had approached a private hospital for treatment in 2018. He underwent treatment at a cost of Rs 25,000. However, he developed complications and suffered severe bleeding after he was discharged. He was referred to another hospital for treatment and spent Rs 18 lakh for the medical expenses. He had also reportedly sold his small piece of land and borrowed money.

The man hailed from a poor family in Kothapelli village in Rajanna Sircilla district. He moved the Telangana Consumer Disputes and Redressal Centre and alleged medical negligence by a doctor at the clinic. The consumer forum came to his aid and ordered a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to him. Commissioner for Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal handed over the cheque to the victim.
