Srivilliputhur Jeeyar says do not bury Athi Varadar again in temple tank

Chennai: The idol of Athi Varadar should not be buried in the temple tank again, opines Srivilliputhur Sadagoparamanuja Jeeyar.

He said today that earlier, the idol was hidden from ‘thieves’ and so had to be buried; but this was not the case now. So, he reasoned, there was no provocation to bury it back in the Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple tank at the end of darshan after 48 days.

The Jeeyar said all mutt chiefs would get together and meet Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami soon and express their opinion on the subject not to return the idol to the temple tank.

He pointed out that the deity has been drawing people in lakhs to Kanchipuram, more than the crowd of devotees that throngs Tirupati, as people can worship Him only once in 40 years – and that too only for 48 days.
