Chennai: Engineers should not get stuck with the software and its related fields but rather venture into hardware domains too, said STPI director Sanjay Tyagi.
Participating at the valedictory function of Smart India Hackathon 2019 held at SRM’s signature Fab Lab here recently, he said, “Fishing industry in our country has huge opportunities for innovations that the technologists and engineers could very well work upon.”
Smart India Hackathon 2019 involving over lakh technical students, 3,000 technical institutions and over 200 organisations across the country was conducted for 100 hours continuously.
An initiative by Ministry of HRD, AICTE, Persistent Systems, i4c and RambhuMhalgiPrabodhinni, the event was held at SRM’s signature Fab Lab, being one of the nodal centres in hosting the world’s biggest hackathon event, a press release said.
High Commissioner, High Commission of Namibia, Gabriel P Sinimbo inaugurated SIH2019 in the presence of SRMIST Vice-Chancellor Sandeep Sancheti.
The grand final saw 10 teams with each team comprising six technical students and two mentors participating.
The problem statements to the teams were given by reputed organisations like Apollo Hospitals, Aurobindo Pharma, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd. The participants worked on the problems allotted to them for 100 continuous hours. The final day had the power judging round of approximately 10 minutes per short listed team. Judges included field experts from domain specific organisations that supported SIH 2019, academicians, researchers and technical experts.
The dignitaries awarded prizes to the four winning teams – Livonian, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Whack1, Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering, New Delhi, Sangili Thalavaadam, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore and Trinetra, Madanapalle Institute of Technology & Science, Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, the release said.
