Chennai: “Actor Suriya’s opinion on National Education Policy draft is supported by everyone, so I support and welcome,” tweeted Congress Trichy MP S Thirunavukkarasar this morning.

He added, “The standard of government schools in villages has to be increased manifold.”

After Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, it is MP Thirunavukkarasar who has come out in support of actor Suriya’s thoughts on the draft.

Speaking at an event in Chennai recently, Rajinikanth said, “I completely endorse Suriya’s remarks on the issue. I am sure his voice would have reached Modi.”

It may be recalled that Suriya recently slammed the New Education Policy. He said some of the provisions in it would disadvantage students hailing from rural background. The actor also pointed out that the policy’s key focus was on entrance examinations instead of providing equitable and quality education.

“Everyone is angered, anguished and scared about focus of the policy being only on conducting entrance exams and not in providing quality and equitable education for students,” he said. Questioning the haste shown in implementation of the policy, the actor said, “It is going to affect 30 crore students of the country.”

A section of BJP supporters said Rajini’s remarks in support of Suriya were made in haste. He should have been careful, they added.
