Chennai: Former Member of Parliament V Maitreyan, who retired yesterday from the Rajya Sabha, said he feels sad he was not re-elected to either House of Parliament. He was in Chennai to pay his respects at J Jayalalithaa’s memorial today on the Marina.

After visiting the memorial, he commented on the AIADMK’s dual leadership in a slightly critical tone.

“I expected a Lok Sabha seat from South Chennai constituency in the recent parliamentary election but it didn’t materialise. I had hope that I would be re-elected to the Rajya Sabha, but that, too, didn’t happen,” said Maitreyan, according to media reports.

On Wednesday, he told the House that he was thankful to late Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Jayalalithaa for having faith in him and electing him to Parliament for three consecutive terms. He also wished Arun Jaitley good health.

AIADMK parliamentarians Maitreyan, K R Arjunan, R Lakshmanan, T Rathinavel and CPI’s D Raja retired Wednesday after completing their six-year term.
