Chennai: A woman bravely fought a chain snatcher who tried to slash her with a knife as she resisted him.

Dhanalakshmi, a resident of Indra Nagar in Kattupakkam, worked as a floor manager in a company that films TV serials. While she was returning home, she was followed by the culprit on a two-wheeler.

When he tried to snatch her 5-sovereign chain at a dark alley, Dhanalakshmi refused to let go of it. Angered by her reaction, the man slashed her with his knife.

Though she was bleeding, the victim raised a cry and a few youth came to her rescue, They not only chased and caught him, but also bashed him up.

When the police arrived, they found that Sivakumar of Iyyappanthangal was a serial offender.  He had in his person a fake journalist ID card and his two-wheeler had a ‘press’  sticker.

What was even more shocking was that he was in the habit of switching off the streetlights in the area to enable him to commit the crime. This emerged during police investigation.

The police arrested Sivakumar and recovered from him a two-wheeler, knife that he used to slash Dhanalakshmi with and chilli powder to help him commit the crime.
