Thrissur:Ā Youth Congress members in Kerala found themselves in the midst of a controversy after they allegedly performed a purification ceremony against aĀ Nattika MLA Geetha Gopi on Saturday.
Protesting against the poor road condition in Cherppu, the Dalit MLA had staged a sit in front of the Public Works Department engineer’s office.
Reacting to this, the Youth Congress workers apparently conducted a purification ceremony at the spot where the CPI leader at sat by sprinkling cow dung water. They said her protest was to befool the public.
The CPI MLA filed a police complaint and said they were casteist. Several State leaders condemned this act by the Youth Congress workers.
Kerala Cultural Minister A K BalanĀ slammed the Youth Congress activists and alleged such so-called purification ceremony was usually seen in north India. ”
Health Minister K K Shylaja also condemned the incident and said the act against the MLA showed the political culture of the protesters.
