Chennai: The central workshop at Goldenrock Tiruchi (GOC), Southern Railway bagged the award for Best Railway Workshop in Indian Railways for its outstanding performance during the year 2018-19. It is the first time that GOC won the Best Workshop award held at national level instituted by Railway Board.
Southern Railway General Manager Rahul Jain along with GOC Chief Workshop Manager P N Jha received the award from Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav at a function held in Mumbai as part of 64th Railway Week Annual Awards recently, a press release said.
The award was shared by GOC along with Carriage and Wagon Workshop at Jagadhri, Northern Railway. Seven officers and staff of Southern Railway also received awards during the function.
Golden Rock Workshop previously achieved milestones in Periodic Overhauling of Coaches (POH), reduction in sick marking of coaches, local passing of rolling stock, commissioning of critical plants and machinery, effective utilization of funds, imparting training to employees.
It has also undertaken special projects such as upgradation of coaches under Utkrisht Scheme, fitment of eco-friendly bio-toilets and efficient scrap management, the release said.
