Chennai: Padaipalan, written, directed and enacted by LS Prabhuraja speaks about the problems faced by assistant directors in Tamil film industry. Inspired by several real-life incidents, the movie speaks about how the corporate giants involved in film production cheat them.
Speaking about the film, Prabhuraja, says, “On several occasions, these corporate giants take the story from assistant directors promising to produce it as a film. However after months, they would eventually come out with a movie carrying the same storyline, but directed by a popular filmmaker.”
The dreams and hopes of thousands of assistant directors are shattered by their acts. But the passion to achieve big in cinema, keeps the affected going. They continue to knock one door from another, he adds.
The life of an assistant director is pathetic. They are not even given a house on rent. Their life is full of challenges, he adds.
Padaipalan also stars Manobala, singer Velmurugan, director Tharun Gopi, Jaguar Thangam, Ashmitha. Valavan and Tiruchy Velusamy. Music is by Kirubakaran and cinematography by Velmurugan. A major portion of the movie was shot in Chennai and Kodaikanal.
