Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated Karur Medical College through video-conferencing from the Secretariat, Wednesday. This is 30th government-run medical college in the State. There will be 150 seats in the new medical college.
A press release said, “The then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa made the announcement during the Assembly session under Rule 110 in 2014 and the GO was passed in 2015.”
The institution has been built at the cost of Rs 115.71 crore. The procedure to acquire medical equipment at the cost of Rs 25.64 crore by Tamilnadu Medical Recruitment Board is under way.
PHCs revamped
With the objective of providing quality healthcare services, the Chief Minister inaugurated medical facilities (equipment and infrastructure) worth Rs 9.60 crore at the district headquarters and taluk hospitals of Coimbatore, Thoothukudi, Namakkal, Niligiris, Thiruvallur, Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Virudhunagar.
The primary health centres (PHC) at Coimbatore (Arisipalayam and Thaaliyur), Thoothukudi (Ottanattham), Namakkal (Pavarkadu), Niligiris (Kethi), Thiruvallur (Nemam) have been renovated at the cost of Rs 7.20 crore. Three centres at Namakkal, Thanjavur and Tiruchi (urban PHCs) have been renovated at Rs 1.80 crore.
