Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a speeding truck hit a an auto-rickshaw killing 13 and injuring five people yesterday in Mahabubnagar. All the deceased were farmers.
A media report said the truck was coming from the opposite direction and collided into the auto that was carrying 18 people, including the driver, in it. While 12 of the occupants in the auto died on the spot, one died while being rushed to the hospital.
Th victims were returning home in Kottapalli village, Mahabubnagar district, when the incident happened. The lorry driver was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, family members and relatives of the deceased held a protest demanding justice for those killed in the accident. They alleged that the ambulance had arrived late and demanded the government to compensate for the loss.
Responding to the news, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed grief and conveyed his condolence to the victims’ family members.
