44,974 used Metro Rail’s taxi, auto services in July


Chennai:  A total of 44,974 passengers have used the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation’s (CMRL) Share Taxi and Share Auto services in the month of July.

According to an official release, CMRL had undertaken an initiative of providing several Last Mile Connectivity measures for the metro passengers among which share-auto and share-taxi feeder services are plying at selected Metro Rail Stations on a trial basis since August 2018.

A total of seven Metro stations were identified for share-auto feeder service and are running on the designated feeder routes with a flat tariff of Rs 5. Similarly, the share-taxi feeder services are planned for six select Metro rail stations covering an area up to 3 km radius with a flat tariff of Rs 10.

So far, total of 4,40,087 number of passengers have utilised the share-auto and share-taxi facilities between 11 August 2018 and 31 July 2019.

Also CMRL has tied up with Bengaluru Mega Cabs Private Limited for providing feeder Services at 6 operational Metro Stations namely Chennai Central, Government Estate, LIC, Thousand Lights, AG-DMS and Nandanam from 5 August through an app based system developed by Ford Mobility. The feeder operation route covers a distance of 6-8 km from each of the stations at a flat rate of Rs 10. The ticketing collection system for this service is also integrated with Chennai Metro Smart Card system and Chennai Metro Rail mobile app system. The services will be extended to all other metro stations shortly.
