Chennai: Choolaimedu High Road with its potholes and damaged patches, is a commuter’s nightmare, so to say.
Bajanai Koil Street and Vanniar Street are prime examples of this. According to Vairam, a longtime resident of Sriramapuram Second Street, “The Corporation started re-laying the Choolaimedu High Road sometime back. The milling work was also completed. But after that, there has been no progress. The stretch now lies with large cuts and potholes, resulting in traffic snarls.”
Amirthavalli who works on Bajanai Koil Street, says that the road has been the same for the last six months.
“Earlier, we could atleast see the potholes, but now the rains have made the situation worse,” she states.
Residents and commuters now seek official action in this issue. Gomathi Subramaniam, a regular here, says, “The showers are only going to increase in the coming days. We would appreciate if authorities attend to this concern immediately.”
The people here also allege that the presence of a TASMAC outlet adds to their existing woes.
“The customers coming to this shop, place their vehicles on the street. It would be good if the parking near the shop is streamlined,” states Geethadevi of Bajanai Koil Street.
When News Today contacted the Corporation officials, it was informed that the workers are in the process of repairing neighbouring roads. They also stated that measures will be taken to fill the potholes, on a temporary basis.
