Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today showered encomiums on Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and his leadership qualities as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.

Speaking at a function where Union Home Minister Amit Shah released a book, a compilation of Venkaiah Naidu’s two years in office, Palaniswami said, “On this same day in 2017, he became the Vice President of Indian Republic and in that capacity, Chairman of Rajya Sabha. He earned the respect of all the members of the House, irrespective of party affiliation, because of his friendly approach,” he added.

Recalling that he insisted participation of Venkaiah Naidu in the foundation laying stone function for the expansion of Chennai Metro Rail services from Washermanpet-Tiruvorrtiyur-Wimco Nagar stretch that too on a Saturday when the Parliament has no sitting, the Chief Minsiter said he was really happy that Venkaiah Naidu participated in that event as he was instrumental in getting the Centre’s nod for the expansion project.

In his address, Panneerselvam said, “It is very fitting, that this event, is being held in Chennai, which is virtually the second home, of the Vice President.”

“The book itself, is very appropriately titled. It fits, the style and approach of the Vice President, to every role, in public life, over five decades,” he added.

“I take this opportunity, to heartily congratulate, the Prime Minister and Amit Shah for the daring and historic achievement of removing the Article 370, of the Constitution,” he said.

Panneerselvam said he was confident that this extremely significant politico-constitutional measure, will, not only strengthen, the unity and integrity, of India, but also, reinforce federalism, by placing, all States on an equal footing.
