Chennai: The 2019 UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) report has found out that the numbers of migrant and refugee school-age children has increased by 26 per cent since 2000.
According to the study, the latest data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) show that copying and attaching files to emails are the only skills that more than one in three respondents exercised in typical middle income countries, while the level was between 58 per cent and 70 per cent in the high income group.
It further records more number of teachers migrating to other countries, including India. “According to the Database on Immigrants in OECD and non‑OECD Countries (DIOC), Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United states have among the largest numbers of immigrant teachers. There were almost 195,000 migrant teachers in Canada, with India, the United Kingdom and the United states as top sending countries. In the United states, there were at least 143,000, an analysis of 2010 DIOC data by the Global Education Monitoring Report team showed. Overall, 8 per cent of teachers were born abroad,” stated the UNESCO study.
The report shared that that town planning undergraduate courses are available only in five institutions. “In India, only 21 universities offer postgraduate town planning programmes; only 5 offer them at the undergraduate level. as a result, the country had only about 4,500 qualified town and country planners, the 2011 census showed,” the study added.
