Chennai: A man has lodged a police complaint that nearly 150 sovereigns of gold has been stolen from his locked house at Valasaravakkam.

According to the police, Thangadurai (57), an Ayurveda doctor, has a house in Sridevi Kuppam Main Road, Valasaravakkam. He also ran a clinic there.

Yesterday, he lodged a complaint with the police that unidentified persons had broken into his locked house using the back door and decamped with 150 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in a bureau.

He told the police that he was staying at his house in Madurai, where he runs a clinic, when the incident took place.

The police registered his complaint and began an inquiry. However, they were taken by surprise when they visited the spot. They found that the house had been locked for a long time with broken water pipelines.

The police are checking whether the complaint is genuine.
