Amaravati:Â Even as high alert was sounded in Krishna and Guntur districts, nearly 10,000 people have been shifted to relief camps. The flood flow in these two districts had increased yesterday.
8 lakh cusecs of water inflow into Krishna river affected life in several mandals yesterday and the second warning signal was issued at Prakasam Barrage. A media report said one person was killed and a girl went missing in the floods.
Meanwhile, Godavari saw a revival in flood surge on Friday with 7.74 lakh cusecs of water flowing into the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram. Several villages in Devipatnam and Polavaram mandals in East and West Godavari districts were trapped due to the increase in flood level. Flood level in Godavari is expected to increase. Road network in the Diviseema region of Krishna district was cutoff.
537 houses in Guntur district and 315 in Krishna have been marooned. The government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response and Fire Services personnel, and expert swimmers in the two districts to carry out relief operations.
41 relief camps (accommodating 8,100 people) in Krishna district and eight camps Guntur district (accommodating 1,619 people) have been set up. Relief materials such as food packets and drinking water have been arranged for the affected people.
Areas affected
Dachepalli, Machavaram, Gurazala, Atchampeta, Amaravati, Tulluru mandals in the downstream of Dr K L Rao Sagar Pulichintala in Guntur district were affected by the flood. From Pulichintala, 8.01 lakh cusecs of water was being discharged downstream resulting in an inflow of 7.57 lakh cusecs at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. From the barrage, 7.63 lakh cusecs of water is being let out into the Bay of Bengal.
Due to the surge at Prakasam Barrage, downstream mandals like Tadepalli, Duggirala, Kolluru, Bhattiprolu and Repalle in Guntur district have been affected. Vijayawada city, villages in Thotlavalluru and Avanigadda mandals in Krishna district were marooned.
935 and 678 hectares of agricultural lands in Krishna and Guntur districts have been affected, while horticulture crops in 791 ha and 654 acres have also been inundated.
