Chennai: Chennai witnessed a heavy spell of rain this morning. Several roads were flooded causing traffic congestion. Waterlogging was reported at many places.
The city received intermittent showers from Saturday night and at 8 am today, it became heavy and for one hour, the city received heavy downpour. The regional meteorological centre at Chennai, has said that rains will continue and has issued a warning to the fishermen to not venture into the sea.
The Chennai Meteorological department has yesterday forecasted that 13 districts in Tamilnadu including Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram will receive heavy rainfall and said that Chennai would receive light to moderate rainfall.

Speaking to News Today, Kannan, a motorists, said, “I was driving from Tambaram to Guindy this morning and it poured heavily. There was traffic – jam in GST Road.” Regional Meteorological Department Director N Puviarasan said a cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Tamilnadu coast will trigger showers in many districts.
As predicted, from yesterday night, the city received intermittent showers. However, people rejoice over the fact that if rain continues, it will help in solving water crisis in the city.
