Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today launched the Chief Minister special grievance redressal scheme in Salem.

The Chief Minister said instead of people going in search of government officials to air their problems, authorities will approach the public and redress their grievances.

“A situation has been created in Tamilnadu where officials will go to people’s place, listen to their problems and solve them,” he said after launching the special grievance redressal programme in Salem.

Palaniswami, who personally met members of the public, received petitions from them and promised to address them at the earliest, added that official teams formed for the purpose will meet the people on a regular basis. “All promises made by us during election time are being fulfilled,” he stated.

Under the programme, to be implemented across the State, teams of officials from the departments of Revenue, Rural Development, Municipal Administration, etc., would visit all villages and the wards in urban areas on a specified date and receive petitions from the people. The details of these petitions would be entered into computers and forwarded to departments within a week.

Within a month’s time, the grievance would be redressed.

The launch of the scheme follows Palaniswami’s announcement made in the State Assembly, an official release said.

‘Under the scheme, based on orders by District Collectors, a panel comprising officials from various departments would collect petitions from people across the State. These will be stored in a computer, forwarded to respective departments in a week and issues will be resolved in a month,’ the release said.

Also, Ministers would personally receive petitions State-wide to help address issues like laying of new roads, installation of streetlights and water supply, among others.

Functions would be held across the State in which they would present welfare schemes to beneficiaries.

Public grievance day meetings are now being held every Monday in all districts in the collectors’ office, and camps are also being conducted every Friday at the taluk-level by tahsildars.

Today, he launched the scheme after worshipping at a temple in his constituency. Speaking after collecting the petitions, the Chief Minister said RsĀ 76.25 lakh has been set aside to implement the scheme which would be taken to all the 234 Assembly constituencies.
