Chennai: The city police are searching for four men who fled with gold and cash from an alleged prostitution den here at Ramapuram yesterday.

This morning, police received information that the four visited the place as customers and left without paying money, besides taking away gold and cash.

It is said Ramakrishnan and his wife Lakshmi ran the prostitution racket at Venkateswara Nagar First Main Road, Ramapuram.

Lakshmi told the police that four men came seeking women last night. But then they tried to escape without paying for the services.

When Lakshmi and a man, identified as Sudhakar, tried to stop them, the gang attacked them. After overpowering the duo, they stole Rs 1 lakh and two sovereigns of gold.

The men then fled the spot. When police visited the house, Lakshmi narrated the sequence of events.

A police source said, “We are yet to find out if the theft took place or if it is a fake complaint. There were no women except for Lakshmi when the police team reached the place.”

CCTV visuals from the spot are being examined. The police are also questioning Lakshmi about the alleged flesh trade business.
