Chennai: A day after an explosion, suspected to have been caused by an artillery shell, near a temple in Thiruporur killed two people, the police have found a similar shell at the spot.
According to a media report,Ā an artillery fuse of 51mm and a shell has been recovered and has been sent technical team to ascertain what exactly it was.
The police team cordoned off the temple premises and barred people from accessing the site of explosion. A technical team has been deployed to study the materials recovered, and the entire vicinity wasĀ sanitised. The report also quoted an official saying that there were no more shells and would get a clearer picture of the whole incident. The injured are under going treatment in ICU at the government hospital.
The deceased were identified as Suriya (22) Gundumanicheri, Koovathur and Dileep Raghavan (25), an electrician from Tiruporur. The injured persons, Jayaram (25), Yuvaraj (23), Thirumal (24) and Vishvanathan (22) have been admitted to Chengalpet Government Hospital.
The six men had gathered behind the temple to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and they found a discarded object and tried to open it when the blast occurred.
