Chennai: Shabnam Resources, an organisation located at Kodambakkam, which works towards environment conservation, conducted an awareness programme on rainwater harvesting and disaster preparedness recently.
The venue was Shabnam Resources, No.13 Buddha Street, Rangarajapuram, Kodambakkam. Speaking to this paper, Micheal Hubert, founder and director, said that the main aim was to unmask the dynamics of monsoon harnessing and risk prospects. 
Special speakers from the Meteorology department, Health department, Metro water, Corporation of Chennai, rainwater experts and disaster management gurus attended the camp.
The subjects of discussion were de-silting water reservoirs, silt audit, salvaging water-bodies, urban level audit of stormwater drains, upkeep and revisit of rainwater harvest facilities, percolation pits in water stagnation places.
Vinod, a resident of Buddha Street, who is also a social activist said, “This camp is a timely one and it covers the risk factors of the monsoon season and how to help the public in general and vulnerable groups such as the sick, elderly, pregnant women, babies and more, apart from ways to evacuate in case of threats.”
