Chenna: Amazon Kindle’s third edition of Pen to Publish contest will be open to writers from 15 September to 14 December.

For this year, the judging panel will include authors like Pa Raghavan and C Saravanakarthikeyan for Tamil, Durjoy Datta and Sudha Nair for English and Divya Prakash Dubey for Hindi entries. Writers can submit their stories in English, Tamil and Hindi.

Amazon in a press statement said, ”Participants can submit their original written entries either in short-format (2,000-10,000 words) or long-format (more than 10,000 words) through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) on amazon.in from 15 September to 14 December”.

It also noted that ”entries will be judged on originality, creativity, quality of writing, and customer feedback”.

Authors should must visit kdp.amazon.com to self-publish their book on amazon.in while enrolling their book in KDP Select programme.

This year, Amazon has brought something similar to its Amazon StoryWriter – a part of the Amazon Studios that offer budding screenwriters to break into the TV entertainment industry.

This year, finalists and winning titles of long-format category will be evaluated by a panel from Amazon Prime Video executives to select a book. The winner will be offered an exclusive, 36-month option for Amazon Studios to purchase the screenplay along with an advance payment of Rs 7 lakh.

Winners in each language under long-format category will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a merchandising deal and a chance to be mentored by the panelists.

The website also added, ‘First runners-up will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each, while second runners-up will be awarded Rs 50,000 each. For short-format category, winners will be awarded Rs 50,000 each while the first and second runners-up will get Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 each respectively.
