Chennai: 100% Kadhal, the Tamil remake of Telugu film titled the same, starring GV Prakash and Shalini Pandey finally releases after much delay. It is directed by Chandramouli and produced by the film’s original director Sukumar with GV Prakash also doubling up as the music composer.
Balu Mahendra (GV Prakash Kumar) is an engineering student, who right from his childhood continues to get the top rank in his class. He is intelligent and dislikes anyone who is not good with studies. Enters Mahalakshmi (Shalini Pandey), his cousin who is from a village and joins the same college. She is not too good at studies and struggles to catch up with the subjects. Balu dislikes her but decides to help her study well.
In the very next exam, she beats Balu to secure the first rank. While both of them continue to fight with each other for marks, they also get attracted towards each other. At this juncture enters Ajay, who secures the top rank in the next exam and Balu and Mahalakshmi decides to do combined study and also distract Ajay to beat Ajay. When they accomplish their mission, a minor difference opens up between them and their negative side, and both of them go on an ego ride.
How both of them overcome their ego and express their love forms the rest of the story. One of the plus points of the movie is the performance of the lead actors. After Sivappu Manjal Pachai, GV Prakash, gets another role which suits him perfectly and he has delivered a noteworthy performance. Shalini Pandey, though shows a tad too much glamour, plays her part well. Coming first as a carefree college girl and then as a responsible working class woman, she differentiates the change quite easily. There are also a handful of kids who have done a good job.
The movie however is too lengthy and fails to connect with the audience. GV Prakash’s music also didn’t match his own standards. The VFX used in the film is also a big letdown. The comedy in the film, rather than evoking laughter, is a mere irritant to the flow of the film. There is also not much scope for actors like Nasser, Jayachithra, Rekha, Thalaivasal Vijay and Appukutty in the film. Despite the movie, being a remake of a film that ran successfully, it fails to replicate the same here and is underwhelming.
