Chennai: ”Direction is my passion. I will certainly helm a film in 2020″, says actor-filmmaker Sasikumar. Having started his journey with Subramaniapuram, Sasikumar has come a long way acting and producing several ventures in Ktown. Up next, his Nadodigal 2, directed by Samuthirakani, will be out. Says Sasikumar, ”Today, producing a movie is an easy task. But problems in releasing the film are plenty. As an actor my hands are full now. I have not even thought about bankrolling a movie now.”
Excerpts from his interview:
Q: On your reunion with Samuthirakani for Nadodigal 2…
A: We discussed the story long back. It should have gone on floors even before Kodi Veeran. I had to face a few personal problems and hence it was delayed. I adore Samuthirakani a lot and he takes care of me well. The movie had a different title initially. We thought the story was racy and engaging like our earlier venture Nadodigal and hence we named it as its sequel. It has come really good.
Q: We heard Nadodigal 2 voices for welfare of transpersons…
A: We should see them as one among ourselves. A transwoman Namitha plays my friend in the movie and she comes all through. Their travails are highlighted in the film. They deserve our love and respect. We have even spoken about a transperson, who worked hard and became a police officer.
Q: About MGR Magan, your film with director Ponram…
A: It is a very interesting subject and the title itself has generated a huge buzz. I am sure the film will be liked by all sections of the audience.
Q: You are working without any break. Why?
A: I am not running around for me or my family. I burnt a hole in my pocket producing a few films and I have to settle my dues. Would call it compulsion and passion that drive me to do a lot. When I work in plenty, they believe me that I will live up to my words. But I choose to do only those stories which I like.
Q: Will you direct a movie soon?
A: Of course yes. It may happen in 2020.
Q: What was discussed in your recent meeting with SS Rajamouli?
A: I wanted to direct a period film. Since he got it right with Baahubali series, I met and learnt a few things from him. We discussed a lot about cinema.
Q: On the challenges film industry face today…
A: In todays digital world, producing a movie has become very easy. But to get it to theatres is an Herculean task. You never know from which corner, a producer would get troubles. Even films of big stars are not spared today as putting hurdles at the last moment has become routine for some people.
