Dramatist TV Varadarajen was honoured at the inauguration of drama festival in Vani Mahal.

Chennai: In a treat to theatre lovers, 27 Tamil plays are being staged from 10 October, at venues like Vani Mahal, Rama Rao Kala Mandap, Bharat Kalachar and various other locations in the city.

The man behind it all, dramatist T V Varadarajen, founder of United Visuals, who is coordinating the entire event, shares his idea behind the show.

Varadarajen said, ‘I am organising this only to showcase the greatness of the plays that were put up from 1970s till date’. ‘These are to be staged in memory of two stalwarts- Crazy Mohan and SV Sankaran, while entry is free for all programmes’, he said.

Stating his memories with the two, he stated, ‘Crazy Mohan was like my brother and I acted as a hero in his first play in the 1970s. With his humour, he reached out to audience of different ages and through this festival, I will be paying rich tributes to the legend’.
‘Sankaran mama was a genius, to whom Cho Ramasamy sir always referred for consultations regarding dramas. I am dedicating this festival to him’.

A press release regarding this said, seasoned dramatists like S Ve Shekar, Komal Swaminathan, Augusto, Srivatsan, KRS Kumar, Mappilai Ganesh, Kudandai Mali, Mohan Karthik, KSN Sundar, Shivpprasad, Kovai KRS, Kathadi Ramamurthy, Kovai Paddu, Y Gee Mahendra, TV Radhakrishnan, KP Arivanandam, Santhosh Rajan, Crazy Creations, Rathnam Koothabiran, Poovai Mani, Anandu, Raghavan Girish, Mallikraj, Kutty group, Madurai Kannan, SBS Raman and Elango, are all set to stage their shows in this event.

‘Varadarajen’s initiative is a boost to theatre and he was specific in making entry free for rasikas’, said a participant.
The festival that is underway till 3 November, has its valedictory function scheduled on the last date at 10 am in Vani Mahal, GN Chetty Road.

TV Varadarajen can be reached at 94440 69292.
