Chennai: Indian Chess legend said that with the good talent pool available in the country for chess, it’s just a matter of time for Indians to break the 2600 Elo points barrier.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by Microsense Private Limited, a global technology company for P Iniyan, Prithu Gupta and Raunak Sadhwani, who recently became the country’s63rd, 64th and 65th Grandmasters respectively, he said, “I am very happy to be here at the felicitation of the three youngsters. I really applaud Microsense’s support for all these youngsters. We have lot of talents here and it really makes life easier for them with this kind of support with systematic coaching.”
He also urged all the players to work hard and hoped that all of them can break the 2600 Elo barrier and go beyond that in the years to come. The three newly crowned grandmasters are among the 20 talented youngsters mentored, supported and funded by Microsense. They are also three of the six talents who were coached by Russian legend Vladimir Kramnik as part of the Microsense Kramnik Chess Programme in August this year at Geneva.
Speaking about the training programme and its impact, the grandmasters said that they had benefitted a lot by interacting with the Russian legend and felt another session would be helpful.
The group of up-and-coming Indian chess players will again train under Kramnik in Spain in December and S Kailasanathan, managing director of Microsense, who is organising the program, said another camp is being planned in Chennai in the first quarter of next year where Kramnik and some other chess players will train Indian players across age categories.
The organisers also said that Viswanathan Anand has also expressed his willingness to partner the company in helping the youngsters.
