Chennai: “M N Nambiar’s spiritual powers helped him achieve greater things in his personal and professional life too,” said maestro Ilayaraja.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of veteran actor and Ayyappa Gurusamy M N Nambiar in Chennai Tuesday, Ilayaraja said, “Nambiar was my Gurusamy who took me for Sabarimala pilgrimage for the first time in 1980. He was a staunch atheist. An inspiration for many.”
“Everything fell in place for him in his life thanks to his disciplined life and belief in Almighty. Whenever Nambiar and his team visited Sabarimala they stayed in my guest house on the foothills of the holy shrine. Today it has become a veda patashala.”
On his part, former top cop Vijayakumar, said, “Nambiar was a self made man. He was humourous and witty too. Those who know him always admired him a lot.”
Recalling his experience going on pilgrimage with Nambiar, Vijayakumar, said, “He took great care of everyone of us. He was very charming. We learnt a lot being with him.”
Veteran actor Sivakumar, senior journalist Rangaraj Pandey and Tamil scholar Bharathy Baskar also spoke. The event saw a grand Ayyappa Bhajan by Veeramani Raju. Former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, BJP leader L Ganesan, veteran film personalities including Sachu, Srikanth, M N Rajan, Venniradai Nirmala, Rajesh, P Vasu were present on the occasion. The event was organised by Nambiar’s son Mohan Nambiar and grandson Siddharth Nambiar.
