Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at two houses in Trichy and Thanjavur this morning.  The agency arrested two persons in Trichy for allegedly maintaining contact with terrorist organisations through social media.

According to police, at 7 am, a three-member team of NIA from Coimbatore arrived at the residence of Sarbujeen (30) at Edamalaipatti Pudur, Trichy.

The team arrested him and another man identified as Jaffer. The NIA found that Sarbujeen had ‘liked’ and ‘commented’ on posts and pages on Facebook which supported terrorism. He was taken into custody to find out if he had any links with the terrorist organisation.

Sarbujeen, sources said, was set to travel abroad for work tomorrow, which is why he was arrested today. The NIA is also finding out if he was carrying any information or parcel to extremists abroad. His family members were also questioned. The team searched every part of his house.

The NIA seized a computer, laptop, passport, visa and some other gadgets from his house. The officials are also finding the details about his previous trips abroad.

This is the second time NIA officals are conducting a raid in Trichy this year. Simultaneously, a team of NIA sleuths visited the residence of one Sheikh Alauddin at Keelavasal, Thanjavur.

Alauddin is a footwear seller. Sources said he was inquired as he was earlier a member of SIMI, a banned Muslim students organisation.
