Chennai: Reservations in government buses to travel during the Pongal holidays began today.
Bookings have been opened 30 days before the festival and with the Railway reservations already done, more people are expected to book bus tickets.
Like the previous years, buses are expected to be operated from Puratchi Thalaivar MGR CMBT bus stand, Tambaram MEPZ, Madhavaram Bus Terminus and Poonamallee bus stand.
For this year’s Pongal, buses to Andhra Pradesh were operated from Madhavaram bus terminus, while buses to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Kumbakonam were from Saidapet bus stand. Kumbakonam and Thanjavur-bound buses left from Tambaram Arignar Anna MEPZ bus stand, while buses to Vellore, Arani and Arcot were operated from Poonamallee. Buses to all other destinations ran from Koyambedu terminus.
It may be noted that 14,423 special buses were operated from Chennai for Pongal to help people from other districts reach their destinations. Also, more than 10,000 buses will be operated from other districts to handle the festival rush this year.
