Chennai: An unclaimed box of military ammunition at the parcel office in Basin Bridge created a scare at Central Railway Station. However, it turned out to be dummy ammunition for a military training institute in Andamans and was wrongly addressed to Chennai.
According to sources, on 26 April, the parcel arrived at Central Station from Nagpur and was not claimed immediately. It was sent to the godown of a parcel office at Basin Bridge. Since it was unclaimed for many months the staff examined the parcel and found the ammunition, including grenades and bombs.
The Pallavaram Officers Training Academy was alerted and they traced the parcel. The box was sent from a military training academy in Nagpur to 172 Battalion, that is another military training centre in Andamans. But it was wrongly addressed to 72 Battalion that is Chennai. The parcel is not being sent it to Andamans from Chennai.
