TN Governor takes part in platinum jubilee celebrations of A C Tech

Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa along with the awardees including India Cements vice-chairman and managing director N Srinivasan during the platinum jubilee celebrations of Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai today.

Chennai: As students are the future pillars of India, they should repay the nation with their knowledge which is the powerful tool to develop the country, said Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Participating at the platinum jubilee celebrations of Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, here today, he said, ”Today India has one of the youngest populations of the world with more than 60 crore people below the age of 30. This huge asset, if properly trained and deployed in the service of the people of India, can bring about a major transformation. Colleges such as A C Tech are performing that noble role of training the youth and offering them skill-education so that they may lead gainful lives not just for themselves but also for the nation”.

”India is at the third place behind US and Britain in terms of the number of startups. In the past five years, the Government of India has come up with a wide array of startup schemes and funds to encourage, launch and growth of startups in the country. The Anna University is coming up with Atal Incubation Centre supported by Atal Innovation Mission of Niti Ayog. Also the AC Tech campus is having University Innovation Cluster supported by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council of Department of Biotechnology, government of India”, he said.

As part of the celebrations, the Governor presented the distinguished alumni awards and released a coffee table book. Ten alumni of the institute were presented with awards. One among them was
India Cements Limited vice-chairman and managing director N Srinivasan, who is also the chairman of the platinum jubilee celebrations committee, Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa and A C Tech dean S Meenakshisundaram were among those present.

As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations today and tomorrow, a slew of events including a technical conference, exhibition and cultural programme has been organised.

A multi-disciplinary symposium on chemical engineering, textile technology, leather technology, industrial biotechnology, ceramic technology, petroleum technology, nanotechnology, and food and pharma technology would be held, apart from ‘Make in India Industrial Expo’.

Special enclosure at IPL match

India Cements Limited vice-chairman and managing director N Srinivasan  said there will be a special enclosure of A C Tech alumni at the upcoming IPL matches in Chennai.

75 and going strong

The A C Tech was started by University of Madras with contribution from philanthropist Vallal Dr Alagappa Chettiar expressing interest in starting unique programmes in the fields of chemical, textile and leather. Alagappa College of Technology was started in 1944 with the intake of just 43 students. Today, the college has 9 undergraduate programmes and 13 post graduate programmes with the intake of 800 students every year.
