Chennai: In protest against eight people, including six young women detained by the Chennai city police for staging a novel protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR)–by drawing rangolis at Besant Nagar area, DMK MP Kanimozhi and party president Stalin’s houses saw kolams drawn in front of their houses.
Police sources said the women under the banner of Citizens Against CAA group, were held for drawing kolams (rangoli) to voice their protest against the CAA and the NRC. The colourfully drawn rangolis contained slogans ‘No to CAA, No to NRC, no to NPR’, which attracted several people and affected traffic.
Kanimozhi had urged all women cadre in DMK to draw kolam as part of the protest.
